A Fun Day was had by all

Moses Brown and Jamestown students celebrated the games in style and with aplomb (which means confidence and skill). Of the 90 students attending, over 50% read 10 books or more! Needless to say we are very proud of all of you; you were outstanding!

Biggest thanks to our sponsor and biggest booster of the Rooster Games, the extraordinary Jamestown Education Foundation (JEF) who support the games year after year. 

JEF, along with our PTO, made the day possible by underwriting the costs, from our fabulous pizza lunch and snacks. Thank you to MOSES BROWN for the Rooster Trophies!!

Super thanks to the chaperones, the wonderful parents who made the day a success and took care of their flocks. Mr. Hines, the gray team will ever after be the Platinum team. Thank you all for your patience and flexibility too.

 Thank you to the parents of the Moses Brown students for generously sending us snacks and drinks - we appreciated that very much.

Thank you to the teachers of both schools; especially Mrs. Garth, whose slideshow helped bring the students into our classroom  before we met, our fifth grade teachers who ran centers, and of course to Mrs. Laura Gladding, Lower School Librarian, and fellow Rooster Game organizer. and game show host!

Mary Berry, assistant at Lawn Library and Carolyn Wilk, Volunteer and future librarian, thank you so much for the hundred little things you did today to make everything run smoothly for the students, and again to Mrs. Berry for helping to clean after the party was over.

You know, it really takes a village; from Mrs. Pamula and Mrs. Kraus lending us art supplies, to Mr. Kitts and Mr. Vietri setting up our equipment, to Mrs. Saul calling Mrs.Sullivan to bandage a knee, to Mr. Bush who took everyone outside for recess to burn off their energy, and all the specials who kindly gave up their time for this in house "field trip", on behalf of our students, all our students, thank you so very much!

Hello Students, Friday is the day! We have some ebooks that you can skim through to remember the content, think about the possible object or question....and read the first line. Also remember to check out the RICBA awards - this screencast will help you.

Post for Parents - what to do to get ready for the Rooster Games Feb 26th

The Rooster Games are fast approaching,  and people up and down state are wondering how to prepare their students for the day. There's not much to it.

For the 7 or so years that we at Jamestown have played the Rooster Games, we've just asked folks to wear a shirt in their team color and bring a snack and something to drink (a juice box packet or water) for that wonderful time when everything is done and you are socializing and eating and feeling good! If you forgot what color team you are on, click on the rooster photograph for the team list. Some snacking materials will be provided thanks to the Jamestown PTO and the Jamestown Education Fund.

If you can't find or borrow a purple shirt, for example, past practice has been to tape a piece of paper onto the students shirts - both front and back - declaring that the shirt is purple!  Solid color is preferable - if there are words/images on it, no problem.  Some students have gone so far as to spray their hair their team color!  Yes, it's OK to do that. It is a sport, after all.

Just to let you know how the day will go: Moses Brown students get on the bus at 8:30 to go to Lawn Avenue school. The students will finally get to meet their other teammates!! Then a parent chaperone from Jamestown will lead the teams around to the various activities they need to complete. The rounds include: matching the author to title, first lines of the book to the proper book, a poster round where they draw a subtle poster expressing understanding of the book. A title scramble. They will find twenty objects on a table that they need to match to the correct book. Then we break for lunch.

 Then comes the PowerPoint round, where the teams are asked both multiple choice and fill in questions regarding the books.The chaperones will be tallying and scoring while the awards will be presented: a certificate of merit for reading ten or more books and a trophy for those who read all twenty. The three top scoring teams will be announced, and photo ops ensue, and then just hanging out with new friends, maybe running around our playground, weather permitting. Then at 12:45 the Moses Brown students will board the bus back to campus.. 

On behalf of our students and myself, I would like to thank Moses Brown for playing with us us. 

Lunch for all 115 involved and some of the snacks provided, is being paid for by the amazing generosity of Jamestown Education Fund. Thank you for always being first and foremost a supporter of educational opportunities for our students;  and helping us reach some of our S.I.T. committee goals in providing outreach and collaboration outside our fair city. It is no exaggeration to say that without you, this day could never happen.

The trophies were paid for by the Jamestown P.T.O. Thank you for letting us reward good readers.

 P.S., I think they got it half right; student rejoice at school opening (huh!) and teachers weep (yup).

Snack Update For All Students

So the good news is that snacks and drinks will be provided.  Jamestown's lunch service, Aramark, will provide assorted chips, cookies, drinks and water. Jamestown students will know what is offered and I will send a list of available items to Moses Brown. It is not necessary for you to ask your parents to send in anything.

Please remember the date of the games is Friday, February 26th. Jamestown students please remember to ask your folks if they can chaperone - this is very important. We need ten folks to head up the teams, and two on stand-by. 

Wear your team colors with pride!  Use the RICBA Blog on the home page of the catalog for Reference!  Good luck to all and we look forward to seeing our friends/teammates from Moses Brown SOON!!

You may be familiar with it already; it is a parody of the popular song "Let It Go" from Frozen, celebrating school closure in a very amusing way. The music teacher, who supplies the voice, has an amazingly beautiful voice, and the video itself has well over a million views!

Welcome to the Rooster Games 2016

Now it's Jamestown's turn to host Moses Brown, who did a fabulous job last year making us feel welcome and comfortable. And stuffed!

Soon we will be making teams, posting the list, using powerpoint to introduce the teams, putting permission slips and reminders, posting a poll for our favorite (we were RIGHT!! we picked Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library and it won)...but for now, all you should be doing is READING!

The list of  is available on the rooster games blog, and many books available for inter-library loan throughout the state.
