Now it's Jamestown's turn to host Moses Brown, who did a fabulous job last year making us feel welcome and comfortable. And stuffed!
Soon we will be making teams, posting the list, using powerpoint to introduce the teams, putting permission slips and reminders, posting a poll for our favorite (we were RIGHT!! we picked Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library and it won)...but for now, all you should be doing is READING!

Talk about fun and games! A fantastic day was had by all, and I've never seen a happier, more excited and gracious bunch of students. 13 students read 20 books and over 70% of the students read 10 or more!!!!
On behalf of the Jamestown part of the teams, we'd like to say a few heartfelt thanks yous to our new friends and faculty at Moses Brown.
To the Head of the Lower School: Mr. Jeff d'Entremont, thank you for your warm welcome and for extending an invitation to continue our collaboration. We'd love to!
To Mrs. Laura Gladding, for so calmly and generously hosting us, setting up the stations, getting the chaperones, setting up the tech, feeding us beyond our expectations, for all your invisible hard work in front of and behind the scenes to make this a super special day - and BTW, the cake was delicious!!!
To all the Moses Brown Parent Chaperones: You guided us through the stations, and took great care of us with great team spirit. Thank you so much!
To the teachers: Thank you for for playing with us, blogging with us, and a special thank you to Mrs. Garth for all your work and for the powerpoint team slides, so we could see our teammates before meeting them. We cheered every slide!

Jamestown Education Fund: Thank you Mrs. Fortenberry and all the board members for funding the bus so we could get to Moses Brown. We are grateful for it!

Jamestown Parents: For providing all the juice and snacks, which were a highlight and a respite from the hard work. You are always so generous and your contributions kept the energy high and the stomachs happy. It makes the work seem like a celebration - cause it is!!

Moses Brown "Frozen" Video "School Is Closed"
What a fabulous way to tell your students, and the world, that school is closed! It's been viewed over 200,000 times, shown on CNN, the BBC and a Chinese News Agency. How awesome is that? And some lower school students are seen...maybe some of your teammates?
I can't wait to meet the Head of School Friday to tell him how much I enjoyed his video! And to tell him that there's a Jamestown connection to Frozen, too - director Jennifer Lee's dad is an Islander and former Jamestown School Committee member. Small planet!

Post for Jamestown students - quick lunch update
Well it looks like the menu has changed and I hope you think it's for the better. Lunch will be chicken tenders, hand-cut potato chips, salad if you are vegetarian, and cake.
Your MB teammates think it's a tastier lunch for you (and them). If there is a food issue with this menu let me know. If your parents need to pack a lunch or have Jamestown School make a lunch let us know ahead of time so it can be arranged.
Post for Parents - What to do to get ready for the Games
The Rooster Games are only a week away (okay, 9 days, let's not quibble) and people are wondering how to prepare their students for the day. There's not much to it.
For the 6 years that we at Jamestown have played the Rooster Games, we've just asked folks to wear a shirt in their team color and bring a snack and something to drink (a juice box packet or water) for that wonderful time when everything is done and you are socializing and eating and feeling good! If you forgot what color team you are on, click on the rooster photograph for the team list.
If you can't find or borrow a gray shirt, for example, past practice has been to tape a piece of paper onto the students shirts - both front and back - declaring that the shirt is gray! Solid color is preferable - if there are words/images on it, no problem. Some students have gone so far as to spray their hair their team color!
Just to let you know how the day will go: Jamestown students get on the bus at 8:30 to go to Moses Brown. The students will finally get to meet their other teammates!! Then a parent chaperone from Moses Brown will lead the teams around to the various activities they need to complete. The rounds include matching the author to title, first lines, a poster round where they draw a subtle poster expressing understanding of the book. A title scramble. They will find twenty objects on a table that they need to match to the correct book. Then the PowerPoint round, where the teams are asked multiple choice and fill in questions regarding the books.The chaperones will be tallying and scoring while the awards will be presented: a certificate of merit for reading ten books and a trophy for those who read all twenty. The three top scoring teams will be announced, and then off to lunch and treats, and hanging out with new friends, maybe running around Moses Brown's fabulous playground, weather permitting. We will board the bus back to Jamestown at 1:00 and be back by 2:00.
On behalf of our students and myself, I would like to thank Moses Brown for hosting us, and for providing lunch for all students, teachers and parents attending the Rooster Games. As we are bringing far more people, it is truly an act of deep generosity. This is why the least we in Jamestown can do is buy a juice pack and donate a snack - a box of cookies or muffins, fruit kebabs, bags of something crunchy. No nut products please - you know the drill by now!
The bus is being paid for by the Jamestown Education Fund. Thank you for getting us there and back - this is the longest trip we've ever taken to play the Games and we appreciate your support.
The trophies were paid for by the Jamestown P.T.O. Thank you for letting us reward good readers.

Hello All, by now you must have realized that Blogger puts the newest comments last. I don't know why this is, and I have searched the 'net to find an answer on how to reverse the order from newest to oldest, and the answer is: you can't. I might be able to experiment with some possible solutions, but not till after we finish the Games. I don't want to ruin the blog by messing with the code. SO, please scroll down to see what you've written to each other. It is getting so exciting, isn't it?

This will be helpful for the Author/Title round. First lines is exceptionally easy this year but there are one or two tricky first lines....maybe three?
