Date of Games is Friday January 30th 2015

Whoops! Apparently I wrote "31st" instead, confusing some of my student's families. I apologize. Of course the kids weren't fazed. "We knew it was Friday, you just made a mistake." How cool is it to correct your teacher and hear her apologize? Pretty cool.

But I refuse to make an audiofile!!!!!

What else will there be?

Ah, trophies. Yes, trophies for those who have read twenty books. Certificates for those who have read ten. A souvenir to remind you of the day. And the permission form for Jamestown - if everyone read it,  you would know that we are asking your folks to send in drinks and a treat so we can have a little celebration when the Games conclude. You deserve it.

We hope you are thinking of what kind of posters you'd draw to represent your books without being too obvious, and what objects might be chosen to represent the books. What might we ask you about the books? Hmmm, it would be great if teams could make sure between the ten of you that all twenty books have been read by your teammates.

Don't shy away from the "big books" because Mighty Miss Malone and Navigating Early turned out to be amazing, totally amazing books. And now, I'm thinking heaven for librarians might look an awful lot like Mr. Lemoncello's Library. Although I'm not too sure about the tiger....

Some Hints for a successful team

Are you writing the first lines of the books down? You should, as you will have to match first lines with the title of the book. Some first lines are total give-aways. But others...not so much.

Are you looking at the RICBA blog to match the title of the book with the author? The poll lists the books but not the authors. I will make a link so that you can reference it.

Are you thinking about a great image for a poster - one that let's us know that you read the book without giving it away totally (think Wizard of Oz - don't draw Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man and Lion on a Yellow Brick Road....instead, draw...a house on top of Tornado....a pair of sunglasses with green lenses....a bucket of water and a burnt broom..... )

To answer the question "Will there be food?"

Yes.In the form of Pizza! Treats as well. We will be checking for any food allergies, your folks will be getting a form to fill out about donating some treats and drinks to our lunch...

and there will be Pizza.

Hot Off The Press:  I noticed on the poll that Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library and Doll Bones are leading the poll, in that exact order.

Hmmm wonder which book will really win the book award?

We here at Jamestown are going to use some sort of technology to show you what we look like, so you can see us....before you see us! Just haven't decided the best way to do this yet.  Skype? I-movie? PowerPoint? What do you recommend? Of course we will keep it between ourselves, no worries!

Rise of the Rooster Games! Hello Providence and Jamestown! Let the Reading begin!

Welcome new Roosters, to the 2015 games. We have created pages for each team to communicate on. What do you want to say to your new team members?
It could be the books you've read
or the objects you think could be connected to the book
you could also just talk about yourselves a bit, things you like, sports you play, music you listen to.
Get to know each other a bit, and hopefully we can connect both of you via Skype or a similar tool.
In the meanwhile, just use your first names, last initial, and introduce yourselves.

A Great Big Thank You to All

What a great day we had together!! Students, thank you for reading so much and for being so smart and well-behaved! Chaperones, thanks for all your hard work and great sense of humor and taking care of your flocks so well. Teachers, thanks for all the help and for running the first part of the games. Parents, thank you for all the lovely treats and juice. We had so much extra juice, in fact, that we donated it to Welcome House in Wakefield after the games where we our gift was very much in need.
